Autism Accreditation

Autism Accreditation at Our School

Autism Accreditation Lead: Ms L. Thompson

At Acre View Primary School, we are proud to announce that we have successfully achieved Autism Accreditation, a nationally recognised quality assurance standard delivered by the National Autistic Society (NAS). This accreditation is the UK’s only autism specific quality standard, recognising organisations that demonstrate excellence in understanding autism and providing high quality support for autistic children and young people.

What Is Autism Accreditation?

Autism Accreditation is an internationally respected framework that guides schools in evaluating, strengthening, and celebrating their autism practice. With over 30 years of expertise behind it, the programme provides a structured way to ensure environments, teaching strategies, and support systems reflect the latest best practice in autism education.

Achieving this accreditation confirms that Acre View Primary School:

  • has a deep and comprehensive understanding of autism
  • embeds autism aware approaches across all areas of school life
  • creates learning and social environments that are carefully designed to support autistic learners

This recognition validates the work of our staff and the quality of our classrooms, communication systems, and sensory environments.

Why Achieving Accreditation Matters

Securing Autism Accreditation is an important milestone for our school. It reflects the strong foundations we have built and our ongoing dedication to inclusion and personalised support. The process has strengthened our practice and highlighted our commitment to continuous improvement.

Key benefits of achieving Autism Accreditation include:

  • A consistent, autism focused approach across the whole school, supporting pupils and families with clarity and confidence.
  • Enhanced staff expertise, ensuring that our team understands autistic communication, sensory needs, and learning differences.
  • Improved strategic planning, guiding the long term development of our SEND provision.
  • Better outcomes for autistic pupils, supported by personalised, strengths based approaches.
  • Reassurance for families, knowing that provision is grounded in nationally recognised, high quality practice.

How Autism Accreditation Benefits Our Pupils

At the heart of Autism Accreditation is the belief that autistic children should learn in environments that recognise their individuality, reduce stress, and promote success. Achieving accreditation reflects the strength of our provision and our continued commitment to meeting the needs of autistic learners.

Our accredited practice includes:

  • Calm, predictable, and supportive learning environments that reduce sensory overwhelm and enhance engagement.
  • Personalised communication approaches, including spoken language, visual supports, and alternative communication systems.
  • High quality training for all staff, ensuring confidence and consistency in supporting autistic pupils.
  • Strong partnerships with families, recognising their essential role in shaping each child’s individual journey.
