PE

"To keep the body in good health is a duty... otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear."

Acre View Primary School puts physical activity at the heart of developing a healthy lifestyle. We believe that P.E. and developing an enjoyment of sport is key to adopting a healthy mind and body throughout life.

Our aim is to deliver a curriculum that enables our children to develop skills to find success and enjoyment in a range of physical activities. This will enable them to be ready to develop positive attitudes, skills, and fitness and potentially engage in elite sports as they progress to secondary school.

Intent - What are we trying to achieve?

At Acre View, we intend to deliver high-quality teaching and learning opportunities that inspire all children to succeed in physical education and in developing life skills. We want to teach children skills to keep them safe, such as being able to swim.

We also want to teach children how to cooperate and collaborate with others as part of an effective team, understanding fairness and equity of play to embed life-long values. Our curriculum aims to improve the well-being and fitness of all children at Acre View, not only through the sporting skills taught, but through the underpinning values and disciplines that PE promotes.

Implementation - How is our vision translated into practice?

PE at Acre View Primary School provides challenging and enjoyable learning through a range of sporting activities including; invasion games, net games, strike and field games, gymnastics, dance, swimming, and outdoor and adventure.

The long-term plans set out the PE units which are taught throughout the year and ensures that the requirements of the National Curriculum are fully met. Our equipment provides opportunities to become physically active during break times, lunchtimes and before and after school which enhances their mental and physical health.

Impact - The Difference Our Curriculum Make

We help to motivate children to participate in a variety of sports through quality teaching and learning opportunities that are engaging, challenging and fun. From our lessons, our children will take responsibility for their own health and fitness, many of whom also enjoy the success of competitive sports. We equip our children with the necessary skills and a love for physical activity and sports. They will grow up to live happy, healthy and active lives, utilising the skills and knowledge acquired through their PE lessons.
