Inclusion Quality Mark

Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM)  at Acre View Primary School

Lead Mrs E Wynne

Our school is proud to be currently applying for the Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM), a nationally recognised framework that supports schools in developing and celebrating excellence in inclusive practice. Working towards this accreditation is an important step in strengthening our SEND provision and ensuring that every pupil feels valued, supported, and able to thrive.

What Is the Inclusion Quality Mark?

The Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM) provides schools with a structured, nationally recognised system for evaluating and improving how they meet the needs of all learners. It supports schools in reflecting on their inclusion journey and offers external validation for those demonstrating strong inclusive practice. IQM focusses on ensuring that every pupil, regardless of background, ability, or need, feels included, supported, and able to achieve.

At the heart of IQM is the belief that an effective school must be an inclusive school, where teaching, learning, wellbeing, and achievement are seen through an inclusive lens. Inclusion here is not limited to SEND support but extends to equality of opportunity across gender, ethnicity, background, and attainment, as well as ensuring support for pupils at risk of disaffection or exclusion.

What Does the IQM Process Involve?

The IQM application process includes a rigorous, evidence based evaluation of how the school meets the needs of its learners across leadership, teaching, curriculum, environment, and outcomes. Schools are guided to reflect deeply on their provision, benchmark their practice, and identify areas for further development.

Key elements of the process include:

  • A detailed self evaluation against nationally recognised IQM standards.
  • Demonstrating how inclusive teaching is embedded in day to day practice.
  • Showcasing how the school adapts to meet diverse needs through tailored support, responsive teaching, and inclusive environments.
  • Ensuring leadership is committed to sustaining inclusive values across school culture, policy, and family partnerships. ]

The framework includes seven inclusion standards, covering areas such as school ethos, emotional wellbeing, leadership, partnership working, adaptations, teaching and learning, and transition processes.

How the IQM Will Benefit Our Pupils

Applying for the IQM is already helping us strengthen our inclusive culture. As we work through the framework, our pupils benefit in several important ways:

  • Stronger SEND Support
The IQM is designed to help schools embed excellence in SEND practice, supporting early identification, targeted interventions, and inclusive teaching that helps all children progress.
  • Inclusive Learning Environments
The award emphasises creating classrooms where differences are recognised as opportunities for learning. This aligns perfectly with our belief that every child should feel a sense of belonging and value.
  • A Whole School Commitment to Wellbeing
Emotional wellbeing, safeguarding, and feeling safe are part of the IQM standards. This encourages whole school systems that support pupils’ mental health, resilience, and happiness.
  • Improved Collaboration with Families and Agencies
The process encourages schools to strengthen partnerships—with families, external services, and community organisations, o create joined up, effective support for pupils with diverse needs.
  • A Culture That Values Every Learner
IQM promotes equal opportunities and positive outcomes for all groups of pupils, including those who are vulnerable or at risk of exclusion. This supports our ongoing commitment to ensuring each child is seen, heard, and celebrated.

Why We Are Seeking the IQM

Applying for the Inclusion Quality Mark helps us:

  • Reflect on and celebrate our existing strengths.
  • Identify meaningful next steps in our inclusion journey.
  • Ensure our systems, teaching, and environments remain robust, adaptable, and child-centred.
  • Demonstrate to families and our wider community that inclusion is at the heart of everything we do.

The IQM process is a powerful opportunity to continue developing our inclusive ethos and to ensure every pupil, whatever their needs or background, can flourish.
